Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy

freedom of movement

Pelvic floor physiotherapy (PFPT) is a specialized form of physiotherapy that focuses on assessing and treating dysfunction in the pelvic floor muscles, which is the group of muscles that support the pelvic organs including the bladder, uterus/prostate, and rectum. These muscles play a key role in bladder and bowel control, sexual function, and core stability. Whether you are are experiencing discomfort, dysfunction or just looking for preventative care, our trained physiotherapist can help!

Our pelvic floor physiotherapist is trained to:

  • assess muscle strength, tension, and coordination

  • provide manual therapy (internal & external techniques)

  • guide you through specific exercises to strengthen or relax the muscles

  • offer education on posture, breathing, and lifestyle changes

Pelvic floor physiotherapy is useful for treating:

  • urinary issues: incontinence, urgency or frequency

  • prenatal care: prepare pelvis for childbirth

  • postpartum recovery: diastasis recti, c-section, tearing or prolapse

  • pelvic pain: endometriosis, vaginismus, coccydynia or vulvodynia

  • sexual dysfunction: painful intercourse, erectile issues

  • chronic constipation or bowel incontinence

  • core and lower back pain linked to weak pelvic muscles
